Oilseed rape crops proud in NE Scotland

This LG Anastasia is now approaching GS 18/19 BBCH and has not been hindered at all by the dreaded Cabbage stem flea beetle. The crop was drilled in mid-August following hybrid winter barley with a Nitrogen and Phosphate starter solution and has never looked back since. No pre-em herbicides, only a contact graminicide to control volunteer cereals. Brassitrel plus foliar nutrient was applied at 3L/ha in early October and we are now getting on with fungicide applications while ground conditions are still favourable.

This is one of the best fields I have seen but most crops in NE Scotland are looking equally well although not all so advanced. The longer rotations practiced here are probably a lesson that should be taken South of the border!
